Noro Yarns

Scarves

Bert Price: 5 $

"Bert" is a special scarf  my grandmother used to knit for the whole family. There is no tying, no big knot underneath your chin while wearing it and no loose hanging ends to disturb you – just great. Even if you have grown up meanwhile.

Finished Size(s): one fits most adults
Skill Level: Intermediate
Yarn Used:
Kurt Hesse Llama fine, 2 balls or/and
Noro SilkGarden, 1 ball or/and Lana Grossa Cashmere+, 2 balls

Edgar published in Knitty's fall 2005 issue

In Germany, fall is grey, wet and cold. Nothing else. Just the right time for some extra color and coziness from a scarf.
I love self striping yarns. I really do. Many colors in just one ball mean endless possibilities for adventurous knitters. Edgar the edgy scarf is my latest approach to the possibilities of one or two balls of self striping yarns, showing off all their beauty and brightness.

One ball of Noro Silk Garden or Noro Kureyon knits up to a cravat, 43 inches long. If you’d like an extra long Edgar, 2 balls will end him at 85 inches. If you want him medium (43 inches), one and a half ball will do.

Finished Size(s): one fits most adults
Skill Level: intermediate
Yarn Used:
either1 (2)  balls of Noro Silk Garden or Noro Kureyon.

Karlchen FREE

Do you know the feeling of starting a cap from a ball of leftovers and running out of yarn before the crown is finished? I do. As a result I designed “Karlchen” (German for “Charly”), a one ball cap knitted from the top downwards.

If you are running out of yarn – just come to an end. Knit the ribbing and bind off. It doesn’t really matter if the cap is an inch shorter – as long as you start at the crown!

The pattern is suitable for many different yarns; it explains the basic formula for a top - down cap.

I published this pattern last year in my German blog for free. Here is the translation.

Finished Size(s): from baby to adult XL
Skill Level: Intermediate
Yarn Used:
most yarns, examples knitted in
Noro Kureyon (1 ball) and Lang Tosca (1 ball)

Connie Price: 3 $

I love self striping yarns and I like to keep my ears warm. It’s that simple.

The first idea was to give the colors and stripes of Noro Kureyon room to show their brightness – and that could be done best in a beret with it’s relatively large and flat surface.

Choosing a wheel shaped crown brings some straight lines and life into the coloring.

Noro Kureyon 1 (S, M & L) ball,  2 balls (XL)

Merry Needles Price: 5 $

Spending a couple of weeks in the UK this summer I wanted some travel gear for a selection of knitting needles. As Germany isn’t the place to buy good knitting equipment, I decided to knit and felt my own needle quiver.

So the first Little John came to life. He did an excellent job during my stay in the UK and now has gathered several mates.

The quivers are nice give-aways – not only for the poor.

You will get  patterns for

  • 2 Robins - quivers for double point needles

  • 2 Little Johns - quivers for straight needles

  • 2 Tucks - quivers for circular needles

  • 1 Much (the millers son) - quiver for crochet hooks, lucet or short double point needles

All are felted knits.

Finished Size(s): see above
Skill Level: intermediate
Yarn Used:
Alafoss Lopi, Gedifra Gigante, Noro Kureyon

For a while now I have been in love with mosaic patterns.
If you combine a solid colour yarn with a self striping yarn the effect is tremendous. My intention was to create a mosaic or slip stitch pattern that is suitable for a scarf – giving you a scarf which looks alike on both sides, using only one colour per row and displaying the brightness of the yarns.

The mosaic pattern this scarf uses is easy to knit –  just give it a try.

Finished Size(s): One
Skill Level: beginner
Yarn Used:
One ball Noro Kureyon and one ball Alafoss Lettlopi OR one ball Noro SilkGarden and one ball Gedifra Cashmerino.
